NDYC March 2023 Newsletter

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by

Dear members,

As the days are getting longer and the temperatures are hopefully on the rise we have an action-packed diary for the next few months offering a little something for everybody. Isn't that a great picture, it reminds us of great times on the water last year, thanks to Maria Slough for providing the photo.

To kick off with, we have a very special request. We are looking for four volunteers to form a small committee to help steer the clubs very first Boat Jumble. This is planned for September and is already shaping up to be a fabulous community led club event. In the first instance we need 4 additional people to join a committee to get the idea up and running. Currently we have two people already. You don't need to know about boats or jumbles, or the difference between a shackle and a reef! Just have a small amount of time to help your Club.

Please can you contact Dave Goss via email if you can help.  tjdgoss@gmail.com

Safety Boat/ Race Officer Duties for the coming season

We are about to start putting names to Safety Boat duties for the coming sailing season. For each race, training session and Club Boat cruise we need safety boats, race officers etc. Helms need their RYA Power Boat level 2 and Safety Boat cert. Crews don't need formal qualifications, but should be able and kitted out to enter the water to help right a dinghy if needed.

All sailors who race, are asked to complete duties, but any member who would like to get on the water in a safety boat or support racing by volunteering as the Race Officer/Assistant RO is greatly appreciated. If you are able to, please could you sign up for 2 or 3 duties on dates of your choosing (between April and October).

To sign up:

·       Open the NDYC home page

·       Click on Calendar

·       Each event on the calendar is given a description, look for racing on the date you would like and click on that event e.g. Summer 1

·       Click Volunteer for your chosen duty.

If you could do this in the next two weeks please, then we can fill in the gaps with names on the list of sailing members and PBL2 drivers.

If you undertook duties last year but cant this year, please let me know and Ill take you off my list.

Many thanks

Jon Farr.
