Women's Sailing at NDYC

The aim of our Women's Sailing group is to enable women to get out on the water. We do this by offering relaxed, supportive sailing sessions where women can build confidence, develop skills, try different boats, meet other sailors and, above all, enjoy spending time on the estuary.

The group is open to all women aged 18 and over, whether you've never sailed before or have years of experience. Our sessions are run by women, for women and provide opportunities to sail at your own pace in a friendly, encouraging environment. They are not formal lessons. Instead, they complement the club's RYA training courses by giving you the opportunity to put your new skills into practice in a friendly, low-pressure setting. Whether you'd like to helm for the first time, improve your boat handling, sail with different people, try a new type of boat or simply enjoy being out on the water, you'll be very welcome.

We sail a variety of boats, including:

  • Club Dart 18 and Dart 15 catamarans
  • Argos
  • Lasers
  • Your own boat, if you have one

If you're new to sailing or don't yet feel confident sailing on your own, that's absolutely fine. We can usually pair you with an experienced helm, so you can enjoy being on the water and learn through experience.

Sessions are arranged around tides and volunteer availability, typically on weekday mornings or afternoons, and we usually finish with a drink ashore.

Whether you're looking to return to sailing after a break, try something completely new, or simply meet other women who enjoy being on the water, we'd love you to join us.
