This policy provides details of our safeguarding commitment and principles for the protection of all young people and vulnerable adults who take part in NDYC activities.

This policy applies to the Trustees all employees, volunteers under the direct control of NDYC, agency staff employed by NDYC, students and anyone working for or under the direction of NDYC (the NDYC Team). This statement is reviewed annually by the General Committee.

There is a legal responsibility to keep children and young people safe. The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect children/young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Provide those members of the NDYC Team working with children/young people and vulnerable adults clear guidance on our approach to safeguarding

NDYC Fundamental Safeguarding Principle

A child/young person or vulnerable adult should never experience abuse of any kind. We have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people and to keep them safe. We are committed to behave in a way that protects them.

We recognise that:

  • The welfare of the child/young person/vulnerable adult is paramount
  • All children/young people/vulnerable adults regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have a right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse
  • Some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs and other issues
  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young peoples welfare.

We will seek to keep children/young people and vulnerable adults safe by:

  • Valuing them, listening to and respecting them
  • Identifying a lead senior management member and appointing a Welfare Team support to club safeguarding arrangements.
  • Ensuring that the Welfare Team receives regular appropriate safeguarding training and disseminates this to the appropriate NDYC Team members
  • Ensure members of the NDYC Team who work or regularly have contact with children/young people/vulnerable adults are DBS checked
  • Adopting child young person protection and safeguarding practices through appropriate and relevant procedures and a code of conduct
  • Supporting anyone who in good faith reports his or her concerns that they or a colleague or another person is at risk or may be being abused or that abuse is suspected
  • Using safeguarding procedure to share concerns and relevant information with agencies who need to know
  • Ensuring that we provide a safe environment for children/young people/vulnerable adults and volunteers who attend SLSGB events and approved activity by providing appropriate safety guidance
  • Maintaining a case management review process to review DBS disclosures, respond to Safeguarding complaints and hear disciplinary cases, etc

The General Committee undertaking regular Safeguarding risk reviews and receive regular safeguarding reports

The NDYC Team individually and collectively have a responsibility to implement the policy, and each has a right to be protected by it. Support is provided to anyone who, in good faith, reports his or her concerns that they or a colleague, is at risk or may be being abused or that abuse is suspected.
