Young Pirates Optimist experience
Welcome to Young Pirates
We are testing a new format of sailing with friends for our youngest ever cohort. It is intended to be an introduction to sailing and will be a mix of sailing and non-sailing activities.
This is not a formal training lesson, instead it is a sailing related experience. We will introduce the pirates to the water and to sailing. But we will also have other types of activities onshore to mix things up.
The activities will last for 1 hour for the these trial sessions, excluding the time getting changed before and after.
The sessions will be very weather dependant and we apologise in advance, but sometimes we may need to cancel if the wind and weather are not favourable.
Pre-requisites
All pirates need to be confident in the water. They will need a bouyancy aid and clothing which is warm when wet so will keep them warm from splashes and when wading to the boats. A wetsuit and cagoule with a rash vest or thermal top and swim suit would be ideal. They also will need a change of clothing, towel and warm hat and jacket. On sunny days they will need sun tan lotion, sun glasses and sun hat. Pirates will not need any previous sailing experience, just a love of water.
We recommend that parents remain at the club for the sessions and they would be very welcome to assist and lend a hand. It should be stressed that parents are expected to be responsible for their children when at the sailing club or afloat during activities.
Cost and Booking
There is no cost associated with this activity, but this activity is limited to 6 participants. Family or Youth Membership is required.
Please check out the calendar for details.
Sailors need to arrive changed and ready to be afloat.
