Marine Radio SRC Course (VHF Course) and optional exam.

1st March

A course for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.

This is a one (long) day course with the teaching and learning through the day and then the all important assessment for your license at the end (the assessment is an additional £70)

This is an in person course with an instructor standing in front of you at the club with radios for you to practise with.

The cost of the course is £tbc and includes the course, assessment and book. It is open to club members and the minimum age is 16. £? of this comes to us and covers the instructor for the course. £? of this is the Exam fee and goes direct to the RYA - this is optional but without it, you will not actually hold the required license to operate the radio.

There is a small amount of pre-course learning to help you progress through the day more easily and gives more time to look at the radios. You will be asked to learn the phonetic alphabet and the format of a traditional mayday call over VHF, more information will be sent with your joining instructions.
