Youth Squad
We are re-launching the Youth Squad this year with the aim of getting your children
back on the water and sailing confidently. The idea is to have fun and to develop their
interest in sailing. We will also look at guiding your child into racing, however, our
main focus will be on enjoying themselves and building confidence on the water. In
our experience not everyone enjoys sailing alone, so we will try to cater for that as
well.
At this stage we require a minimum ability of Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 3 in order
to participate in the Youth Squad. This will be reviewed and expanded, in due course,
as coaching and craft capacity increase.
We have 6 planned sailing sessions and may do more on/off water events depending
on take up. Typically, they would last no longer than 90 minutes on the water with
changing/rigging time either side. Club boats will be provided (Picos, Fevas [double
handed] Lasers and Catamarans).
The sessions will be led by one of our Race Coaches who are keen to support the
Youth Squad in this social/leisure sailing capacity. They will also be supported by an
experienced Catamaran sailor and a Dinghy Instructor.
We would like to highlight that for all sessions, a parent/carer must remain on
site for the duration and take responsibility for their child.
IMPORTANT! Prior to booking, please complete the youth squad registration so that we can see where you are at (what you are confident rigging and sailing) and also where you want sailing to take you next.
Places are currently limited, and staffed according to need. If you find that you are
no longer able to attend a booked session, please advise us ASAP so that your place
can be reallocated.
We look forward to sailing with you!
