Happy New Year to all at NDYC.
The club continues to thrive over the winter with activities both on and off the water and lots of preparation going on in the boat park. Major off the water changes this year include extended opening hours for our bar. We are serving lunches almost every Sunday with hot pasties/pizzas, teas, and coffees served otherwise. Please drop into the club and support the bar - details via the website link.
On the water we have a Wednesday evening study work group to assist Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster and Ocean Yacht Master theory plus a Follow On Sailing and Just Sail programme which enables RYA level 1-2 sailors to rig, and sail in company with experienced support at organised events with full safety cover - see recreational sailing
Membership renewals
This year we decided to separate membership from boat park renewals as the membership year starts Jan 1st and in these tighter financial conditions it seemed reasonable to delay summer boat park to April and next winter boat park fees will be due in September / October.
At the time of writing 40% memberships have been renewed. We have extended the membership renewal period to the end of Feb but after that date memberships will lapse. So please try to get your membership renewals in by then. To complete your renewal log into your web portal (https://ndyc.org/login) and click on Renewal. if you have any difficulty please let the secretary know and we will do what we can to help.
Youth Squad Relaunch
We have reformed the Youth Squad. Its just fun sailing and sessions will have some extra training on weather conditions and tide and safety cover. This is for youth sailors who are L2 and above and want to come and use club boats or their own boats. There will be no cost to be involved but we do ask that parents support the events where possible. The Youth squad will meet on 10 Saturdays over the summer from April to October along with Follow On Sailing adult groups. A sailing instructor will also be available whenever possible giving pointers.
Joe Mellows is putting together a team of volunteers so if you are interested in helping please just reach out to the Vice Commodore (VC@NDYC.org). For more information check out the Youth Squad pages on the website at https://ndyc.org/sailing/youth... or send an enquiry using the subject Youth squad from the drop down list.
Looking for a Publicity Officer
We are looking for a member to help with communications of what is happening with the club. We really just need help putting together regular newsletters and social media. The role is as big as you want to make it. Please make yourself known to the club secretary if you wish to take on the role.
From The Galley
We are a band of a few volunteers from the Yacht Club who happily come along on alternate Sundays to serve lunches to the Yacht Club members, and sailors who have been out on the water. These are planned on alternate Sundays to the Sunday Roasts. We will be serving various Hot Dishes including Sausage Onion & Mash, Cottage Pie, Chilli, Meat Balls, and Curry in the future Sundays. We also will have Homemade Soup and Toasties as well as Cakes. Menu will be posted on the Bar each week. Fantastic Venue, Happy Atmosphere, Great Views
